4.2.4 Short Circuit Test: Short circuit testing is used to ensure that all circuits of the device shall not be damaged when shorts to ground or power are applied and also to verify that the circuit protection is adequate and Failure. Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) fail safe. These tests shall be conducted on separate samples from those identified for mechanical and electrical tests. Terminals that are connected to Battery or Ground circuits are not tested.4.2.4.1 Equipment: Power supply shall be appropriate for the test. Use appropriate wire length to provide less than 20 mΩ of resistance. Apply power at (14.0 ± 0.1) V per design pin out.4.2.4.2 Procedure: Short each switch output through an appropriate resistor to draw maximum load current for 15 minutes. Increase current in increments of 0.5 A to 1.0 A in 15 minute intervals. Continue increasing current until switch fails or fuse blows. Measure and record last current level and condition of switch at end of test. At no time during the test shall the device exhibit any indication of a thermal incident, smoke or odor up to and including the vehicle rated fuse value. Minor amounts of smoke or an odor preceding a switch failure are acceptable.Note: Repeat 4.2.4.2 test procedure for each switch circuit.
