There are many kinds of treatment for keloid and hypertrophic scar. Corticosteroid is the first-line treatment for keloid and hypertrophic scar. Especially, TAC is one of the most commonly used corticosteroids for keloid and hypertrophic scar. Cryotherapy has been applied to manage keloid and hypertrophic scar as monotherapy or in combination with TAC. Zouboulis et al22 reported that an intralesional needle cryosurgery for keloid and hypertrophic scar canachieve an average of 51% of volume reduction. 5-FU, an antineoplastic agent, can induce fibroblast apoptosis and suppress collagen I production by inhibiting the TGF-β signaling pathway.23 Recently,Ren et al24 performed a meta-analysis to compare the efficacy andsafety between TAC alone and in combination with 5-FU for keloid and hypertrophic scar. They indicated that TAC in combination with 5-FU might be more effective than TAC alone. Moreover, Wong et al25 compared TAC with other treatment methods such as silicone gel sheet, 5-FU alone or with TAC, verapamil, and cryotherapy alone or with TAC. They recommended 5-FU with TAC for keloid treatment.
