The TLICS score was proposed to develop a treatment algorithm for common thoracolumbar injuries and has been utilized when making clinical decisions. 20 Another common classification system is the AOSpine Thoracolumbar Spine Injury score (TL AOSIS) which focuses on describing the fracture characteristics. 43 The classification is based on three parameters: morphologic classification of the fracture, neurological status, and clinical modifiers. Three morphologic types are identified: type A, compression fractures, type B, tension band failure, and type C, dislocation or displacement 43 (Table 2). Based on the points, injuries with a TL AOSIS of 5 undergo surgical intervention. Injuries with a TL AOSIS of 4 or 5 can be managed surgically or nonsurgically.
