Thermal expansion of the busbars in the longitudinal direction is largely taken up by the base frame of the bays. When a certain busbar length is exceeded, axial compensators must be used to take up the thermal expansion. A way of removing the busbars in case of damage must also be considered. The rules for positioning the axial compensators in the busbar are explained in the following chapter. The following number of bays, or busbar length without an axial expansion joint is possible in cases in which no or less stringent (up to 0.1g - low level) IEC / IEEE seismic requirements apply, based on the rated current stage and ambient temperature. Refer to Section 1.6.1 for more stringent seismic requirements. The information listed in table 1 apply to following construction. The order of the bays is optional. Different bay structures (e.g. current transformer long, Y-module,..) have to be checked by EM TP SW GIS EN MEN.
