For the tomography experiments, the particles were mixed with water to reach a liquid-to-powder (L/P) mass ratio of 0.25. After filling the cavity with either the prepared wet powder or dry powder, the pressing tool was taped to better accommodate the nanovaterite particles. The pressing punch was inserted and used to slightly compact the powder before placing the setup in a custom-made tensile/compression rig positioned at the beam line. More details on the rig can be found in previous work by Maire et al [16] . To ensure that the water would not evaporate from the wet sample during the measurement, a drop of water was placed on top of the pressing tool before the series of scans started.
