2 Terminology / Definitions2.1 TerminologyForm: Visual appearance including shape, color, marking, and surface finish of the productFit: External dimensions and associated tolerances of the productFunction: Electrical, mechanical, thermal and performance characteristics of the productReliability: Product functionality according specification over lifetimeProcessing: Technical interface to customer; process ability / manufacturability of the customerProcess: Materials, equipment and methods used to manufacture the productFMEA:Failure Mode and Effects Analysis is a methodology to identify and prevent potential failure modes. Hereby the probability of occurrence of a potential failure as well as the effect of this failure in terms of its severity and the ability of detection is assessed. The Risk Priority Number (RPN) is defined as the product of Severity, Occurrence and Detection and gives a measure of the overall risk associated with a planned product/process change.2.2 Major/Minor ChangeMajor changeThis type of change refers to a product/process change where remaining risks on the supply chain are identified due to its impact on form, fit, function, quality or reliability.Minor change with customer informationThis type of minor change refers to a product/process change with impact on the visual appearance (form) of the product, but which does not affect fit, function, quality or reliability of the product and/or agreed upon contractual agreements and where no remaining risks on the supply chain are identified due to its impact on form.Minor change without customer informationThis type of change has no impact on form, fit, function, quality or reliability of the product or agreed upon contractual agreements. It is handled and documented within the suppliers change management system only and requires no customer notification. This type of change is only applicable for electronic components, but not for non-electronic and division-specific components!2.3 PCN (Product/Process Change Notification)A document sent to customers describing a Major Change, the reasons for the change, its timeline, projected impact and containing all information as described in 4.1.
