2.8.29 Expansion joints 2.8.29.1 Expansion joint design (calculation example) Apply the following procedure for the design of expansion joints: 1. Compare the permissible total movement (pretension + operation) with the actual total movement. 2. Compare the permissible movement during operation with the actual movement. (At present, limiting is primarily provided by the track, the contact system and tie rod and not by the bellows.) 3. Check the effects of the adjustment forces on the setup. The following vendor tolerances shall be taken into consideration for the modules: • Extension modules (L < 2000mm) from flange to flange: ± 0.5mm • Extension modules (L > 2000mm) from flange to flange: ± 2.0mm • Other modules, from flange to flange: ± 0.3mm
