Reliability analyses were also computed for the 4 composite variables (shown as dependent variables in the theoretical model). These variables were support of Maradona’s social causes, concern about drug abuse, support of drug abuse prevention programs, and soccer involvement. The variable support of Maradona’s social causes was measured by 3 items, yielding a Cronbach a of .72; concern about drug abuse was measured by 6 items, yielding a Cronbach a of .85; support of drug abuse prevention programs was measured by 2 items, yielding a Cronbach a of .84; and soccer involvement was measured by 3 items, yielding a Cronbach a of .92. Single questionnaire items measured all other dependent variables (abstinence from drug use and awareness of drug abuse). After creating the scales and conducting reliability tests for each variable, descriptive statistics were performed. They are presented in Table 6.
