Plant tissue culture is defined as:The in vitro culture of plant protoplasts, cells, tissues or organs under controlled aseptic conditions which lead to cell multiplication or regeneration of organs or whole plants.It is one of the best approaches to express the totipotency potential and to induce genotypical and phenotypical manipulation in plant cells. There are diverse basic and applied applications of plant tissue culture (described in Chapter 5) [1], [2]. Several advantages as well as disadvantages of plant tissue culture are mentioned in Table 2.1.
