Metal nanoclusters consist of a few to hundred atoms and their sizes are comparableto the Fermi wavelength of electrons which makes them a missing link between metal atomsand metal nanoparticles [18]. In addition to this, they exhibit discrete energy levels andmolecule like properties including HOMO-LUMO transitions and luminescence [19].To date, studies have been focused on the synthesis of gold and silver while studies on coppernanocluster (CuNCs) are in infancy. Compared to noble metal clusters, copper is significantly cheaper and has optical properties similar to silver and gold nanoclusters [20]. Furthermore, the precursors of CuNCs are cheaper and relatively abundant when compared to AuNCs andAgNCs [20]. In addition, incorporating CuNCs with large ligand like Bovine Serum Albumin(BSA) will make them more biocompatible and stable to chemical environment [21]. Thus, current study mainly focuses on CuNCs coated with BSA.
