The laser standard applies to all laser products manufactured on or after August 2, 1976 [1040.10(a)], unless the products are either: sold to a manufacturer for use as components (or replacements) in products that will be certified [1040.10(a)(1)]; sold by or for a manufacturer as repair or replacement components if they are properly labeled as such and have installation instructions [1040.10)(a)(2)]; or intended for export only, are labeled as such, and comply with the requirements of the importing country (1010.20).
