The presence of incomplete neurological deficit in the context of trauma warrants surgical intervention; however, optimal surgical management is still controversial. Studies display the need for anterior column support in cases of extensive damage, kyphosis >30°, or fracture displacement of ≥2 mm. 45 Consideration should be given to the load-sharing system when deciding on the implementation of anterior support in addition to posterior fixation. Load-sharing score greater than 6 requires posterior fixation or combined anterior and posterior approach. Comparatively, a load-sharing score of less than 6 can be treated with short segment posterior fixation only.
