Abstract: There exists the fourth international conventional technical problem (the fourth ICT problem), with the existence of electric brush slip rings in static thyristor brush excitation generators and the pollution, faults and accidents caused by the arcing carbon powder and copper powder generated by the brush slip rings have already plagued people for more than 170 years. The brush slip rings continuously generate excitation loss for many years, which is a dead end for energy conservation and emission reduction. If the fourth ICT problem is solved, we can obtain a kind of high-performance generator with electronic, brushless, safety, clean and energy-saving features, which is the static thyristor brushless excitation generator, thus achieving the upgrading of energy conservation and emission reduction for electrical machines and filling up the short board in power systems.
